Children and Young People

How can I help?

Counselling Children and Young People

With an extensive background working with children and young people in educational settings, finding individual strategies is key for their engagement in the counselling process. Using interests, games and creative strategies can enable children and young people to open up and share what may be troubling them.

I have experience working with a range of issues, including;

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • self-harm

  • suicidal ideation

  • school / exam stress

  • relationship / friendship issues

  • bullying

  • low self-esteem / confidence

  • loss and bereavement

  • anger management

  • sexual identity

Therapy Approaches

Being an integrative counsellor, I use a range of therapy approaches depending on the client’s needs. Primarily person-centred focused, I then incorporate other modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). CBT can help change the way we think and behave and can be helpful for anxiety and depression. SFBT focuses on the client’s goals and can help clients move closer to where they want to be in life.

TESTIMONIALS

Katie’s experience, insight and empathy was instrumental in helping our daughter work through her anxiety. Katie found ways to connect with our daughter and made sessions relevant and accessible for her. She also provided me with invaluable support which I still draw on today.
